The Blades of Netheril Update #2

Fear not, she's still alive and kicking.

I've been extremely busy recently--yes, who hasn't?--and I haven't had much time to update my blog, let alone work on AL4. Which is okay, since I'm still waiting on 1.69 to go final. Ideas are being refined constantly even if the toolset goes untouched; once I see some light ahead of me, I'll delve back in and make some real headway.

One thing that'll definitely get done over the next few weeks (1.69 release permitting) is an update of AL1-3. I'm not talking about massive sweeping changes: I plan to eliminate the last few niggling bugs, clean up the typos I am sure still remain, and take care of anything broken by 1.69. Then I can slam the book on them once and for all, safe in the knowledge that even if AL1 will still suck by today's standards, at least it'll be a polished turd.

For the record, I'm not a big fan of constantly revising and adding to work. While I am sure there is still the occasional player who downloads AL1 and concludes that, "Hey, this Alazander guy sucks, what the heck is the fuss about and why's he Ossian Lead Designer?," I also believe that there's nothing wrong with an author's/ designer's /musician's early and, indeed, amateur work being displayed in the public domain, in all its original g(l)ory. We all need start to somewhere.

When you update AL2, do you plan on changing the cloaks to the 1.68 cloaks?

The only bug I'm aware of in AL2 is in I believe in the Grand Ballroom (I can't get the toolset to work so I'm not sure of the exact location) the two thrones are backwards.

Also, now that I'm thinking of it, in AL1 it's possible to be killed by one of the spell-casting Knights of Myth Drannor if you're caught in their spells. Same for the War Wizards in AL2 when they show up after fighting the bulletes.

Well actually AL1 does not suck! ;)

In many ways it was at least as good and better than many mods of its time period. Its just everyone got better with the toolset (including you). How many mods release back then still even work? It has certainly aged well even if it was quirky because of the PVP zone.

Good new to hear all around. I hope your buddies at Osian will do the same for their "1" mods i.e. update and quash bugs if nothing else with 169.

Its a lot to ask of people who have moved on to bigger and better things - its just that you all gave to the community and I think the community gave back; hence the Mystery's of Westgate.

I still lurk and look forward to 4 and MoW.

You guys considering any activity with the Witcher?

Scott: Yes, I'll probaby update all the cloaks to 1.68.

I knew about the Knights of Myth Drannor bug, but I wasn't aware of the thrones being backwards! Thanks for the heads-up.

JFoxtail: Thanks for the kind words! Regarding, The Witcher... Who knows? Well, I do, obviously, but I can't confirm or deny anything at this stage! ;-)

Hi Alazander,

I have been playing your mods in reverse, Tyrants, Crimson, and I am currently playing Shadowdale.

I was pissed when I got betrayed in Tyrants, so I was suspicious of the mage NPC in Crimson.

Oh, I laughed out loud at the "I assumed you were gay" bit at the end of Crimson. Perhaps that could be extended a little bit? Something like on Blackadder...

"Yes, I suppose you could say I am as cheerful as the next fellow"

PC: "No, I meant gay like the Lemar the limp-wristed, Baron of Bridleton".

Perhaps not the best, but I am sure you could come up with something better. LOL. Or perhaps better not to change perfection.

What kept me entranced by the modules were their respect for the FR lore. Not only respecting the lore, but expanding on it too. The Crimson Guard mercenaries and the order/Maganus are perfectly plausible groups/characters. In my mind they are Canon FR lore, they were just so well done.

Anyway, after a long hiatus, your modules got me back into NWN. Now I am going to buy a new PC so I can run NWN 2.

BTW, is it easy to convert modules from NWN 1 to NWN 2, or is that not easily done? Seeing your modules in the improved system would be great.
