Yes, it's time for one of those. Everyone's allowed to indulge in one occasionally, right?
So... I had several New Year's resolutions for 2008. These were, in no particular order:
1.) Learn Spanish to a competent level; pretty essential given that I hope to move to Argentina in the next few years.
2.) Drag my sluggardly ass off to the gym and start working out. The dream of looking like Bruce Lee is receding ever farther into the distance.
Now, I'm not exactly overweight or in poor condition, but I'm not exactly fit either. In fact, that's always been the case; since about 14, I've done little physical activity, instead preferring a good book or CRPG to anything involving muscular activity. By rights I should look like Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons, but I guess I've been lucky. I want to stop taking my health for granted and embrace the "Healthy Mind, Healthy Body" concept.
3.) Get corrective eye surgery. I'm sick of glasses and contact lenses. They're just one more inconvenience I don't need.
4.) Pay my debts off. Getting married is expensive; less so in Argentina, but still.
5.) Finish my novel.
6.) Finish AL4: The Blades of Netheril.
Of those six resolutions, I've made little to no progress on 1-3. I have an excuse for 2 because I've been waiting on leg surgery (which I'm having next week). It seemed kind of pointless to start working out in earnest only to spend two months on the sidelines, undoing most of the hard work up to that point.
(In case you're wondering, I'm having a metal plate taken out of my left thigh. It was originally inserted back when I had my motorcycle accident in 2003, and it's troubled me since. Overall the accident was a good thing that led to me meeting my now-wife, and the beginnings of what would become AL2: Crimson Tides of Tethyr.)
Resolution 3 is kind of dependent on 4, which is going okay. As for 5 and 6... I'm confident I'll meet at least one of them. And I have a new secret weapon (which didn't help 4, but as the Witcher has taught us, there's always a sacrifice no matter the choice)...
I've ordered myself a spiffy new laptop. The beast in question is a Dell XPS 1530 with a T8300 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GB of memory, an NVIDIA Geforce 8600m with 256MB GDDR3 memory, and a 250GB hard drive. Very, very similar to Hugie's new rig, in fact. Roll on English summers spent lazing in the garden rather than huddled in the aforementioned darkened room sweating over a keyboard.
My wife's ordered a snazzy Inspiron 1525 with a Chill pattern design. Unfortunately the graphics for this one are powered by a lowly onboard X3100. Still, it's apparently enough to play older games in lowish settings. She's not really a gamer, but I intend to introduce her to the Devil aka World of Warcraft. Yes, I've been bitten by that particular bug recently. Blame Michal Madej at CDP.
Until next time...

The computer sounds sweet and that is an impressive to do list.
I am still recovering from foot and ankle surgery and wish you luck with your leg surgery.
I planned to watch nifty movies, read and mod while recovering. I was so drugged up I watched Waterworld twice and through the drug induced haze it seemed better that The Godfather. Go figure.
Good luck, sounds like exciting times are ahead of you.
Wow Luke, thats a lot to read. Let me summarize for the rest of us with ADD:
blah, blah, blah
6.) Finish AL4: The Blades of Netheril.
blah, blah, blah . . .
You can thank me later. ;-)
Chris
Best of luck on the surgery. Have you ever read any Matt Ruff? Sewer, Gas, & Electric would be great recovery reading.
Maddyanne
I hope the surgery has gone well. Bruce Lee mode!
Ernie - It's sweet indeed! Thanks for the kind words. I hope you're foot's doing okay.
Chris - I know, I know... I'm trying my best. ;)
Maddy - Thanks; I'll check out the book reference!
Zach - The noble stoicicism of your beholder has certainly been an inspiration to me during these last couple of weeks. You have my thanks.
I'll have to remember to check for AL4 in the future, nice jobs on the mods. Were very nicely done. Did same thing with Savant's Aielund saga, final mod was about 6 months away, when it did come out I played thre all 4 again. = ) Will probably do the same with your mods if finished end of year, I hope. = ) Thanks again, glad you surgery is done and went well form what you wrote. Look forward to future mods in nwn 1 or nwn 2.
Tunari
p.s. will have to go check, have you put out any nwn2 mods? Off to the vault. thanks again.
