I had a good vacation. The sun shone, the alcohol flowed--albeit not quite as fast as the pages of Toll the Hounds--and I picked up yet another interesting pattern of burns on my poor under-protected flesh. Mental note for next year: sitting in the same position for three hours with minimal sunscreen is not a great idea on the first day of vacation.
I love the Greek isles. I could quite happily divide my time between them and Argentina. With a couple of weeks of rainy old Blighty tucked in somewhere, I suppose; likely April, when Argentina--more specifically Buenos Aires--starts getting colder and Greece is only just beginning to warm up. Anyway, enough about the weather. I wouldn't want to reinforce the old stereotype about the English and their favourite obsession.
So. I have made a decision, and that decision is to release AL4 for NWN1 as originally intended. I will do a solo project for NWN2 at some point, but a 30-hour epic isn't really the best place for it. I've agonized and procrastinated about this project for too long, so now I need to shut up and finish it. You'll hear no more declarations of self-doubt until it's up on the Vault. Promise.
I should note that 1.69 and all its inherent goodness played a big factor in this decision. What can you say about BioWare? They're just a fantastic company with fantastic people. Not all of them, I'm sure--when has it ever been the case?--but as a whole, BioWare are a constant pleasure to deal with and their dedication to the community is astonishing. And the funny thing is, you hear similar positive things even from other folk involved in the NWN1 Premium Module fiasco--e.g. Stefan Gagne--which shows, I think, the class with which they handled that and conduct themselves as a company.
I'll be updating AL1-3 to 1.69 compatibility (Final FINAL patches!) over the next couple of weeks.
In other news, I'm sinking more time into World of Warcraft--I have a 23rd level blood elf Warlock--and currently playing Asphyxia for NWN2. Wow, impressive module. I've put Subtlety of Thay on hold until Dirtywick releases the second part; makes sense to do them both together.
Oh yeah, and Civ 4 waits, gathering dust. Soon, my precious. Soon.

I.69 is amazing. The additional tilesets are lovely and a pleasure to build with. Plus spiffy new placeables and all kinds of interesting new stuff in CEP 2.1.
Very glad you had such a lovely time traveling.
Maddyanne
yay!
Archer and I have enjoyed using the new material in 1.69 as well. The new tilesets are gorgeous. And yes, CEP 2.1 is fantastic.
I'm gratified I'll be able to complete your series in NWN1. And I of course look forward to whatever you do on any platform in the future.
Glad you're back and you had a fine vacation. Don't tell me about Toll the Hounds, I have to wait til next year sometime for it. lol
RangerSG
But what about the new title, Luke? Tell them about the new title! ;)
The new title is still up for consideration, you old rogue!
Besides, I'm not sure if I can drop "The Blades of Netheril," which I rather like, even if it's not totally reflective of the latest story revisions...
hey, have to say I am very glad about this announcement-- I have been carefully storing my character from AL3 with the hopes that the story might continue on the same platform. Thanks!
Alazander
I am very much looking forward to your chapter 4! I have played the other 3 and will be dusting off my nwn1 for 4 :) My obsessive nature may have me playing 1-3 again just to get the flow experience of all 4! hehe
Sounds like a great vacation!
Regards
Liso
That is a great decision. :) Glad you've finally decided. :D
Good luck in your work and I and many others will be looking forward to AL4! :)
Just a question Alaz , will the AL4 continue directley where the AL3 ended? or will it start somewhere else in a new location ( like the rest of the AL series) and by the way , Great Modules you've made truely epic job.
Anon: AL4 picks up shortly after AL3 leaves off - same region, different city. ;)
Unlike previous modules, it's not so standalone. There's not much point in that approach at this stage - I think most players will want to see all the various plot threads tied up.
That said, it should still be easily graspable by players new to the series.
I for one am glad to see that all those yaks I sacrificed to Cthulhu finally paid off with this AL4 for NWN1 announcement. Thanks, dread Lord of Chaos (and also Alazander)!
Hmm , Alazander after you finished the work with Mysteries of Westgate aswell as the AL4 ( Btw , around when do you think you can release it? ) will you start a new chain of modules or will you continue the AL saga or will you simply take a pause? i'm slightly curius since i enjoy forgotten realms modules alot and i think your best at making good such ones :)
Anon - Hopefully AL4 will release sometime this year. As for MoW... I'd be vaguely surprised if it wasn't out by the end of September - but only vaguely.
I don't have any plans for future modules. Although, if I do end up tackling one with NWN2, it will likely be FR-based.
Thank you for keeping AL4 under NWN1 wrappings. With 1.69 released, if my paladin can use his horse, that will be a pleasant bonus ;-)
Thank you again.
Yhat's a very good decision, sir. You'll be able to move on to other exciting projects sooner! (and I've got a Dwarven Defender ready to kick too-tall butts)
Keep us in the know.. (and I also can't wait for MoW but that's another story...)
