No, not the fact HBO has decided to show Loras and Renly in an explicitly gay relationship. It was always obvious from the novels. Though, the over the top sucking and slurping could probably have been toned down some.
What struck me most during his scene with Renly is that Ser Loras is supposed to be one of the finest swordsmen in the Seven Kingdoms, training ruthlessly to reach his celebrated level of ability -- yet somewhat incongruously has the physique of a 12-year-old. I have trouble believing he could lift a sword, never mind block a swing from the Mountain. I think actor Finn Jones needs to hit the gym. At the moment, he definitely lacks the lean athletic build the role requires.

Minor casting quibbles aside, so far Game of Thrones has impressed. Episode 5 was a great step up from the exposition-heavy Episode 4. Tyrion and Arya are the highlights. Jaime is also growing on me. And of course, Sean Bean is always money in the bank. Roll on July 12 and the Dance!

Hahaha, this was exactly my reaction to this scene as well. Loras is a champion jouster and extremely able in melee (as evidenced several times later in the books); he should be much stronger-looking.
I agree with your take on the series as well. Tyrion's really stealing the show for me.
That slurping sound was unfortunate.
In general, I've been amazed at how the series has brought the characters to life more or less exactly as I imagined them (I particularly like the actress who plays Arya). However, Loras is a big exception.
I was a bit shocked at the slurping too.
The series is awsome the casting has been spot on. Arya, Tyrion, Sam, the bear, Bronn, Ned & Jon couldn't be better
"The Dragon" gets crowned & Tyrion's 'trial' tonight cannot wait
