Game of Thrones: Please, no more sexposition

Another strong episode of Game of Thrones this week. However, I have a major gripe, and that is the exposition scene that wasn't present in the books where Littlefinger delivers a monologue while instructing a couple of whores on how to put on a show. My issue is twofold. First, it was unnecessarily crude (play with her arse?) in a way that was embarrassing to watch; more so than any episode of True Blood I can remember. Second, the sexposition technique is beginning to become something of a trope for this series. I understand the intention was to draw a clever analogy between Littlefinger's nature and whoredom, but this came dangerously close to jumping the shark. I dislike the notion that the writers can't trust the audience to pay attention to scenes like this unless they're presented as soft porn.

That's definitely a small finger.

I hope the writers stop using sexposition for series two. Thinking back to the novels, I can recall several scenes with Tyrion, one with Theon Greyjoy, and the memorable "Myrish swamp" scene with Cersei, so we're due several more. But at least they'll be adapted from the novels. The Littlefinger scene in Game of Thrones contained far too much gratuity for my tastes and seemed designed to shock in a way that was very unsubtle.

I've only read two of the books in the series so far. Just finished Clash of Kings today. I have to say that Martin's attention to detail is in all the wrong places. He leaves very interesting scenes untold and describes every sex scene with too much detail. He either leads a very poor sex-life that the need to fulfill his fantasies have to be written or lives a very productive one. My guess would be on the former.

Still a good series although I wish he would re-prioritized the spots he decides to go into more detail.

He also describes every dish of food eaten. There is a wedding in the 3rd book with 77 courses!

The biggest disappointment for me so far is the lack of direwolves.

Yeah, the direwolves have been mostly absent since the first couple of episodes. I think it's probably because getting appropriately sized animals to behave on set and/or generating high quality CGI is difficult and expensive.

Ghost made a fleeting appearance in the last episode but he wasn't very convincing. ;)

Once again you've identified the weakest scene in the episode. Though saying it was less embarrassing than any episode True Blood was a bit of hyperbole. Do you remember the (American) football montage played to country music. That made me literally squirm.

Besides the gratuitous sex scene, there was one other moment that made me chuckle. That was when Robert when signed the order to make Eddard regent. The guy is a lifelong drunk, dying from a boar wound, leaning forward, off-balance, not even looking at the parchment, and when the camera cuts to his signature, it's like he's just signed the Declaration of Independence.

Say what you will about Robert. His penmanship was impeccable to the very end.
