Today was my thirtieth birthday.
My wife and I went to London, where I had a meeting with a literary agent to discuss my work-in-progress novel. The agency has represented many fine authors including George Orwell. The meeting was a success and they seem very keen to take me on, which is great news. Less positive was the fact my wife spent pretty much all day ill, so we ended up hanging around in Starbucks. Oh well.
So, thoughts on turning thirty: I'm lucky be married to a woman I love, and to have some pretty cool stuff (The Shadow Sun, hopefully a debut novel) lined up for the next few months. I've also gotten pretty fit in the last 15 months or so, able to bench 200 lbs and and run a decent 6-minute mile. That helps soften the blow of seeing my 20s recede into the distance.
To those already there: does life get better after 30, or worse?

Well, I'm only a year older at 31, but in my opinion, life is just getting started! Like you said, you have lots of things to look forward to (iOS game and your novel), so jsut enjoy the ride.

"Does life get better after 30, or worse?"
What a question! If you are still keeping track of the years, then you are still "young"! ;)
Well, I am 46 in a few days time (01/10 - great date I reckon!) and I believe life is still good! And, you probably can guess that I am going to say that a lot of it boils down to one's belief's as much as health and general well-being.
Health certainly goes downhill from the mid-thirties (in my experience), but not in such a bad way that one need worry too much if you don't try and act as if you are still in your 20's. I used to run well, but I find myself stopping and panting much more often as I try to do the odd jog along if I am out of the house. The eyes have also become long-sighted, even though I am short sighted as well! Aches and pains increase, although I have M.E. which obviously compounds my own difficulties.
Yet, if one is blessed with an appeciation and acceptance of the Almighty, then the future can only look good. On the contrary, if one is not, then I guess the coming days would look more and more bleak.
On the subject of the book, I wrote one once. I never chased getting it published, as it contained some references to creatures that are copyrighted - and I did not have the heart to change it. I look back at it now and can see it needs a rewrite in some areas, but the overall product was not too bad. You can download and read a copy from my blog. It's entitled, "Deep Within" and I had intended to do two others in the series, but stopped writing part way into the second book, "Deeper Within". If you ever read it, I would be happy to receive some feedback. :)
All the best with your own book - and be sure to blog again when you are 46 to let us know the difference for yourself. ;) God willing, I will probably still be reading at the rate I am writing my module series.
Lance.
As a grey round the gills old 42 year old I can only say that life is what you make it. When I turned 30 I had a bit of a wobble about getting older but I realised I was being a twat and just enjoyed myself.
Next step is offspring ;P
As for your book I stopped reading on that website because I was enjoying it so much I want to wait for it in print
Thanks, guys!
Simon -- By "offspring," you mean my iOS game and novel . . . right? ;)
